The following is a list of oral histories kept in the resource center. If you wish to read one, please make an appointment to come to the resource center any Tuesday morning.
Over the years we have collected hundreds of oral histories and personal narratives designed to record and preserve the stories of those connected to the Delta. Many of them are just sitting in file cabinets, waiting for someone to uncover them. We want to share them – by putting them on our website, our newsletter, magazine, or in living history programs.
We also need to collect more – stories, photos, images, videos, and other material that focuses on the people, places and events that connect us to each other and this place.
To do that, we are seeking volunteers willing to devote their skills and experience toward record and preserve stories.
It would be great to involve younger people, so if you are interested to know more or know someone who might want to be involved email: srdhspresident@gmail.com.
Our oral histories are the recording, preservation and interpretation of historical information, based on the personal experiences and opinions of the speaker. They often take the form of eye-witness evidence about past events, but can include folklore, myths, songs and stories passed down over the years by word of mouth. The oral histories can be inaccurate and need to be used carefully in order to confirm the accuracy of recorded material.
